Biography Born in Glasgow in 1946 and christened John McFarlane Savage, he has been known as Ian all his life. Ian would become a renowned and highly sought after artist. Although most of his work was collaborating with fellow artists in album and poster design, his paintings could be seen in galleries, in London, Paris, Rome, Glasgow, Madrid and Barcelona. He first became interested in the arts at a very young age. An aunt gave him a colouring set for Christmas, when he was six or seven. From that moment he was hooked, drawing or colouring whenever he could. At eight he entered a competition and won first prize. He was convinced he won, because he knew one of the judges. That idea soon left his mind, when the same piece was chosen be exhibited in Glasgow’s McLellan Galleries. He would pay weekly visits to Glasgow Art Gallery, where he would stand for hours, just gazing at 'Christ of Saint John of the Cross' by Salvador Dali. It never occurred to him at the time, he would one day meet the artist, and spend four months honing his skills, under the master. After a brief stint in the British Army, he immigrated to Canada with his new bride. He worked with his father and brother-in-law, in the automotive industry, and entered a self-imposed exile from his art. Three decades after hanging up his brushes, now divorced and living in Vancouver, he has returned to his art. Now adding the computer to his toolbox, he has found a vehicle that will take his art to new heights of imagination
